The Pathway is a benefit mapping tool, used to work out an initiative's intended benefits from the business problems it's solving. It sets out, in four columns, the current business problems, what has to change and what must be stopped to fix them, and the benefits that result. Each benefit added to the Pathway is also added to the initiative's Benefit Register.
The Pathway is being phased out. Existing pathways can still be used for now, but avoid building new processes that depend on it.
This article covers both the Advanced and Simple Models. The Pathway is only available where Enable Pathway is turned on for the initiative's classification — see Configuring Initiative Classifications (Advanced Model).

Opening the Pathway
To open the Pathway:
- Navigate to the initiative's Properties page.
-
Open the menu at the top right of the page, and select Pathway.
The Pathway option in the Properties page menu.
If Pathway isn't in the menu, check that Enable Pathway is turned on for the initiative's classification.
Filling in the Pathway
Work through the columns from left to right. In each column, click Add to add an item, and repeat until the column is complete.
- Current Business Problems — the problems the initiative is solving.
- What has to Change — the changes needed to fix the problems.
- What must be Stopped — what has to stop to fix the problems.
- Impacts — the benefits of solving the problems. Each item added here is also added to the initiative's Benefit Register.
Your instance may name the last column Benefits instead of Impacts. There's no difference between the two.
Rearranging items
Items in the first three columns can be dragged to reorder them, or to move them to another of the first three columns. Items can't be moved into the benefits column — add benefits there directly.
Printing the Pathway
Click Print to save the Pathway as a PDF, as a record of how the initiative's benefits were identified.
For working with the benefits the Pathway creates, see Managing Benefits.
