Note In some instances, the term Benefits is replaced with Impacts. There's no functional difference between the two.
Enabling benefits for a program
To create benefits for your projects, they need to be enabled under the program you want to use them on. To enable them:
- Navigate to your Program, then Configuration, then Program Items, then Benefits.
Navigating to Benefits under a program's configuration. - Click the toggle Enable Benefits.
The Enable Benefits toggle.
Creating a benefit classification
Some settings have a lock icon next to them. Unlocking a setting lets users override it when they create a benefit. It's generally best to leave settings locked, and create a separate classification where different settings are needed. To create a benefit classification:
- Navigate to your Program, then Configuration, then Program Items, then Benefits.
Navigating to Benefits under a program's configuration. - Click New Benefit Type at the bottom right.
The New Benefit Type button. - Configure the classification's settings. These work the same way as in the Advanced Model — see Configuring Benefit Classifications (Advanced Model) for what each one does.
- Once you've filled in the details for the classification, click Create.
The Create button.
Note Benefit Formula isn't available in the Simple Model. Benefit values are entered directly against each benefit.
Properties tab
The Properties tab sets which fields benefits of this type have. It's available once the benefit type has been created.
- Standard Fields — built-in fields: External identifier, used by integrations to match each benefit with its record in another system. Turn on Active to use it.
- Additional Fields — custom fields. Turn on Active to use a field on these benefits, and drag a field to change its order. Click Add Shared Field to use a field created in Administration, or New Custom Field to create one for the program.
For both, Include on Create shows the field on the form when a benefit is created. It's set separately for each benefit type. Fields not included on create can still be filled in afterwards.
For shared and program fields, field types, and the settings that belong to the field itself, such as Required, see Custom Fields (Simple Model).
Default benefit type
The Simple Model doesn't use default classifications. When a user creates a benefit on a project, the program's first benefit type is preselected on the form.
Deleting a benefit type
Deleting a benefit type permanently deletes every benefit of that type across the program's projects and its data, and removes any Initiative Workbook or status report widgets that show that benefit type. It can't be undone.
To delete a benefit type:
- On the program's Benefits page, open the benefit type for editing.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click Delete….
- Amplify lists every benefit of this type that will be deleted, with a link to each. Check the list before you go on.
- Confirm.
The benefit type is removed straight away, so no new benefits of this type can be created. Its benefits are then archived and deleted in the background, which can take a few minutes where there are many. Once they're gone, each project's start and end dates are recalculated, in case they depended on the deleted benefits, and goal totals are recalculated, as the deleted benefits no longer contribute to them.
For creating benefits and recording their values, see Managing Benefits.
