The visualization view shows the initiatives or projects in a register as a block graph, where each block is one item. Group, color, and filter the blocks to spot patterns, such as how many projects are at each stage, or which owners have the most work. The items behind the graph are listed in a table below it.
This article covers both the Advanced and Simple Models. For the other ways to view a register, see Register Views.
By default, the visualization shows only active initiatives and projects, through a filter on Active. To include archived ones, edit that filter. It uses the same true and false values as the Table View.
Adding a filter
To add a filter:
- Under Filter By, click Add Filter. The Filter By Criteria side sheet opens.
- Select the field to filter by from Criteria.
- Under Refine Data, check the values to include. Select All checks or clears every value.
Setting a filter's values. - Click Apply. The filter is added to the Filter By list, with a count of the values it includes.
Editing or removing a filter
To edit or remove a filter:
- Click the filter in the Filter By list. The Filter By Criteria side sheet opens.
- Change the values and click Apply, or click Remove to remove the filter.
To clear every filter at once, click the reset button next to Add Filter.
Grouping and coloring
- Group By — splits the blocks into a column for each value of the chosen field. To see projects grouped by their current stage, for example, select Current Stage. The table below is grouped the same way.
- Color By — colors each block by the value of the chosen field, with a legend of the values. Click a value in the legend to show or hide its blocks.
The table below the visualization
The table works like the Table View. Use its Columns panel to add columns. A filter set in its Filters panel also applies to the visualization, and is added to the Filter By list.
Hovering over a block shows links to view the underlying data in the table, open the corresponding project or initiative in a new tab, or add a filter.
Saved views
The visualization uses the same saved views as the table view of the register, so a view saved here stores the table's columns, filters, sorting, and grouping — see Table View. For saving, sharing, and managing views, see Register Views.
