A goal classification defines a type of goal, such as a financial target or a strategic objective, and the fields every goal of that type has. Goal classifications are created under Administration > Classifications, and then allowed on the initiative classifications that should have goals.
This article covers the Advanced Model, and needs Full Admin, or an Admin Role with Update permission on Classifications. For the Simple Model, see Configuring Goal Classifications (Simple Model). For creating and tracking goals, see Managing Goals.
Creating a goal classification
To create a goal classification:
- Navigate to Administration > Classifications.
- Click + Classification.
- Select Goal as the Object Type.
Selecting Goal as the Object Type. - Configure the settings on each tab, described below. Some tabs can't be configured until the classification has been created.
- Click Create.
To edit a goal classification, click Edit next to it in the Goal Classifications section of the Classifications page, make your changes, and click Save.
General Configuration tab
- Name and Color — identify the goal type across Amplify, such as on the goal's page and its initiative's Properties page.
- Allow objects of this type to be created using the Map — lets goals of this type be added on the Benefit Map, which is being phased out. See Benefit Map.
Properties tab
The Properties tab sets which custom fields goals of this type have, such as a stretch target or a goal category. They're shown under Additional Fields when a goal is created or edited, and at the top of the goal's dashboard. For each field, choose whether to Include on Create. To stop using a field on this classification, select Remove Mapping… on its row. The tab is available once the classification has been created.
For creating custom fields and mapping them, see Custom Fields (Advanced Model).
Advanced tab
- Enable Documents — lets users attach documents to goals of this type. Document upload isn't part of the recommended configuration, so check with your administrators before turning it on. See Documents.
- Delete… — see Deleting a goal classification.
Allowing goals on an initiative classification
Goals of this type can only be created on initiatives whose classification allows them. To allow them:
- Navigate to Administration > Classifications.
- Click Edit next to the initiative classification.
- On the General Configuration tab, check Enable Local Goals.
The Enable Local Goals option. - Select the goal types to allow from Allowed Goal Classifications.
The Allowed Goal Classifications option. - Click Save.
Removing a goal type from Allowed Goal Classifications deletes the goals of that type on every initiative of the classification. You'll see how many goals are affected before you save.
For the initiative classification's other settings, see Configuring Initiative Classifications (Advanced Model).
Deleting a goal classification
Deleting a goal classification permanently deletes every goal of that type, including its targets. It can't be undone.
To delete a goal classification:
- Click Edit next to the classification on the Classifications page.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click Delete….
- Amplify lists every goal of this type that will be deleted, with a link to each. Check the list before you go on.
- Confirm.
The classification is removed straight away, so no new goals of this type can be created. Its goals are then archived and deleted in the background, which can take a few minutes where there are many.
For creating goals of this type, see Managing Goals.
