The Advanced Model supports a completely customizable structural hierarchy, allowing you to decide what each level and item is capable of. Each customized element is managed by a Classification.
Classifications can be as simple or complex as needed:
- Workstream — used to group initiatives. No features or items need to be configured.
- Project — used to manage savings. Prioritize configuring costs and benefits.
- Portfolio — used to track performance. Prioritize receiving reports, displaying dashboards, and managing schedules.
Before creating elements for your hierarchy, it's best practice to create all of the classifications you will need first.
Note — you need Full Admin, or an Admin Role with Update permission on Classifications, to do this.
Creating a classification

The Classifications option in the side menu. - Scroll to the Initiative Classifications section.
The Initiative Classifications section. - Click Edit next to the classification you want to configure.

Default classifications
Each type of item — initiatives, benefits, RAID items, costs, and so on — has one default classification. When a user creates a new item, the default is preselected on the form, where the initiative they're creating it on allows that classification. Where it doesn't, the first allowed classification is preselected instead.
The first classification created of each type becomes its default automatically. To make a different classification the default:
- Click Edit next to the classification on the Classifications page.
- Click Make Default, under Default Classification.
Only one classification of each type can be the default, so the new default replaces the previous one. Make Default isn't offered for enterprise or program classifications, or for measure classifications with Advanced Measure turned on.
Deleting a classification
Deleting a classification permanently deletes every item of that classification, and its data. It can't be undone.
- Click Edit next to the classification on the Classifications page.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click Delete….
Review the items of that classification in a register's table view before deleting. The default classification can't be deleted, and neither can the last classification of its type. Measure classifications can't be deleted while they still have measures.
