A RAID item's behavior is set by its classification's Item Type — Risk, Dependency, or Other. See Managing RAID and Action Items for how each type behaves.
Enabling RAID items for a program
To create RAID items for your projects, they need to be enabled under the program you want to use them on. To enable them:
- Navigate to your Program, then Configuration, then Program Items, then RAID Items.
Navigating to RAID Items under a program's configuration. - Click the toggle Enable RAID Items.
The Enable RAID Items toggle.
Creating a RAID item classification
To edit a RAID item classification, or add additional ones — including Other Items:
- Navigate to your Program, then Configuration, then Program Items, then RAID Items.
Navigating to RAID Items under a program's configuration. - Click New RAID Type at the bottom right.
The New RAID Type button. - Enter a Name.
- Select a Color to represent the classification.
Naming the classification and selecting a color. - Select an Item Type. It can't be changed once the RAID type has been created.
- Risk — items are always rated.
- Dependency — other items can be linked to this item.
- Other — items can go through an approval workflow, such as change requests or decisions that need sign-off.
Selecting an Item Type for the classification. - For an Other item type, select the Workflow that approves its items. Each item is sent for approval when it's created. The list shows the program's own Item Approval workflows, from its Configuration > Workflows — select None where the items don't need approval. See Item Approval in Approval Workflow Types.
- To rate the items, select Enable Rating. Rating is always on for a Risk item type.
- Choose the Rating:
- Simple — users choose the item's rating directly.
- Calculated — users choose the item's likelihood and impact, and its rating is worked out from your rating matrix.
The ratings, and the matrix, are set up for the whole instance — see Configuring Ratings.
- For a Risk or Other item type, select Allow RAID Tasks and Milestones to let tasks and milestones be created under these items.
The Allow RAID Tasks and Milestones option. - Click Create.
The Create button.
Changing the workflow
Changing an Other item type's Workflow resets the approval progress of its existing items. Where there are items already, Amplify warns you how many will be reset before you save. For creating the program's Item Approval workflows, and setting their approvers, see Approval Workflows.
Properties tab
The Properties tab sets which custom fields RAID items of this type have, under Additional Fields. Turn on Active to use a field on these RAID items, and drag a field to change its order. Click Add Shared Field to use a field created in Administration, or New Custom Field to create one for the program. Include on Create shows the field on the form when a RAID item is created. It's set separately for each RAID type. Fields not included on create can still be filled in afterwards. The tab is available once the RAID type has been created.
For shared and program fields, field types, and the settings that belong to the field itself, such as Required, see Custom Fields (Simple Model).
Default RAID type
The Simple Model doesn't use default classifications. When a user creates a RAID item on a project, the program's first RAID type is preselected on the form.
Deleting a RAID type
Deleting a RAID type permanently deletes every RAID item of that type across the program's projects and its data, and removes any Initiative Workbook or status report widgets that show that RAID type, including featured risk widgets. It can't be undone.
To delete a RAID type:
- On the program's RAID Items page, open the RAID type for editing.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click Delete….
- Amplify lists every RAID item of this type that will be deleted, with a link to each. Check the list before you go on.
- Confirm.
The RAID type is removed straight away, so no new RAID items of this type can be created. Its RAID items are then archived and deleted in the background, which can take a few minutes where there are many. Once they're gone, each project's start and end dates are recalculated, in case they depended on the deleted RAID items.
For creating RAID items, see Managing RAID and Action Items.
