Resource management helps your organization plan, allocate, and track the people its work needs. Project managers request the resource types they need over time, resource managers allocate named people to those requests based on capacity, availability, and priority, and project managers then assign those people to tasks. Along the way, Amplify shows remaining demand, utilization, and where people are over- or under-allocated.
This article covers both the Advanced and Simple Models.
Who does what
- Administrators — set up resource types, assign them to users with each user's capacity, and enable resources on initiative classifications or programs.
- Project managers — request resources for their initiatives or projects, and assign allocated people to tasks.
- Resource managers — plan capacity, review and approve requests, and allocate people to them.
What each person can do is set by the Resource Demand, Demand, Allocation, and Resource Capacity permissions in their team role — see Configuring Resources (Advanced Model).
How resource management works
- Configure — create resource types, assign them to users, and enable resources where they're needed. See Configuring Resources (Advanced Model) or Configuring Resources (Simple Model).
- Set up approvals — optionally, give each resource type an approval workflow. See Approval Workflow Types.
- Plan capacity — record how many people of each type you have now, and plan for later periods. See Resource Capacity.
- Request resources — create demand for each resource type an initiative needs, period by period, and have it approved. See Resource Demand.
- Allocate people — meet each demand with named people, based on their availability. See Resource Allocation.
- Assign work — put allocated people on the schedule's tasks, and check their workload with the resource histogram. See Resource Assignment.
