The Performance Dashboard, under Dashboards > Performance on an initiative's side menu, gives a quick view of how the initiative is going: where it is in its stage gate process, how far through its schedule and benefits it is, the status of everything within it, and anything that needs attention now, such as threats to delivery and pending approvals.
This article covers both the Advanced and Simple Models. The dashboard is available where it's enabled for the initiative's classification, or the project type — see Standard Dashboards. Which widgets appear depends on the features enabled for the initiative. Depending on your instance, benefits may be called impacts, including in the widget names.
The stage gate
Where the initiative has a stage gate process, it's shown at the top of the dashboard, with each stage's progress and approval. Click Show Workflow to see the current stage's assessment criteria, supporting documents, and approvers, and to request approval. See Stage Gate Process.
Where the initiative has an Initiative Workbook, that's the main place to complete each stage's work and request its approval — see Initiative Workbook.
Progress and status
Down the side of the dashboard, these widgets show how far the initiative has come, and the status of everything within it:
- Schedule Progress — how far through its tasks the initiative is, from the progress of the tasks on its schedule. Shown where tasks are enabled. See Schedules.
- Percentage of Benefits Delivered — the average progress of the initiative's benefits, including those at the levels below, weighted by each benefit classification's Benefit Weighting. Shown where benefits are enabled. See Managing Benefits.
- Status Overview — a ring chart of the initiatives beneath this one, colored by their Overall status indicator. Only initiatives whose classification uses status indicators, and has an overall status set, are included. See Managing Initiatives.
- Benefit Status Overview — a ring chart of the initiative's benefits, colored by their Amplify Index score — red, amber, or green, using the ranges set under Administration > Status Thresholds. A benefit with no Amplify Index, such as one without a forecast, is shown as N/A. Shown where the Amplify Index is turned on. See Status Thresholds.
- RAID Item Status Overview — a column chart of the RAID items on the initiative and those beneath it, with a column for each rating, such as Low, Medium, and High, in the rating's color. Each column's height is the number of RAID items with that rating. See Configuring Ratings.
In the two ring charts, each slice is one item. Click a slice to open the item. Choose Direct to show only the items one level down, or Rollup to include those at every level below — where there are no direct items, Rollup is shown. Items can be sorted by Name or Status.
On each of the three status widgets, click the link icon in the header to open the register.
What needs attention
The main part of the dashboard lists what's holding the initiative back, or waiting on someone.
Delivery threats
Delivery Threats lists anything likely to delay the initiative, or the active initiatives beneath it that aren't complete, with a recommendation for each. Click Solve to go to where it can be fixed. The threats are:
- Amber or Red Status — one or more of the initiative's status indicators is amber or red. Take corrective action, then update the status.
- Delayed Initiative — tasks or milestones on the schedule are behind their baseline. Review and accept the variance.
- Stagegate Missed — a stage gate milestone's date has passed. Review, then move the initiative through the stage.
- Budget Too Low — the initiative's total cost forecast is more than its total cost budget. Review, then update the budget.
- High Risk w/o Mitigation — a high-rated risk has no mitigation plan. Add one.
- High Risk Initiative — the initiative has high-rated risks. Review the RAID items.
- High Rated Risk — an open RAID item of the Risk item type has a rating set to show on dashboards. High Rated Item is the same, for Dependency and Other items. Review, then change the rating. See Configuring Ratings.
- Measurements Overdue — a benefit's actuals are overdue. Record them.
- Risk Review Overdue — a RAID item's review date is today or has passed. Review it, then set a new review date.
- Task Late to Start — a task should have started, but has no progress. Review and adjust the progress.
- Task Delayed and Task Overdue — a task is behind, or its end date has passed and it isn't complete. Review it, and update its progress or end date.
Only tasks and milestones with Display on Dashboard turned on are included — see Managing Tasks.
Benefit threats
Benefit Threats lists the financial benefits, on the initiative and those beneath it, that are forecast to deliver less than planned — those with an Amplify Index below 100. Each shows:
- The benefit's owner. Click their picture to send them a message.
- The benefit's name. Click it to open the benefit.
- Its Forecasted Return and Planned Return — the totals of its forecast and plan.
- Its Amplify Index, as ABI.
Shown where the Amplify Index is turned on and the initiative has benefits. See Amplify Index.
Pending approvals
Pending Approvals lists the approval requests open on the initiative and the items within it, oldest first — such as a stage gate, an actual value, a benefit's plan or forecast, a milestone, a status report, or a RAID item. Where there are more than 10, they're split into pages. Click the widget's header to collapse or expand it.
Each request shows:
- What it's for — the type of approval, the item's name, and how many days it's been pending. Click the item's name to open it.
- The approvers — each approver's picture, ringed by their response. Hover over a picture to see how long it's been pending, or when it was approved, and any comment. Click a picture to send the approver a message.
- The request's details — open them to see each step's approvers. Where the workflow allows approvers to be modified, and you can update the item, add or remove approvers, and change the request's comment.
- A delete button — removes the request. Shown where the workflow allows approvers to be modified, except for dependency approvals.
See Approval Workflows.
Task Board overview
Kanban Task Overview, at the bottom of the dashboard, is a bar chart of the initiative's Task Board, with a bar for each column, in the column's color. Each bar's length is the Number of Tasks in that column, so you can see how much work is still to start, in progress, or done.
Where the board has no tasks yet, the widget shows No Task Board Tasks instead, with a reminder to add tasks from the Quick Create menu or the Tasks page.
It's shown where the Task Board is enabled for the initiative. See Board View.
For the other standard dashboards, and choosing which are available, see Standard Dashboards.
