New Plan Tab Input Components (Ledger-Style Editing)
We’ve introduced a new set of input components across the Plan and Adjust tabs, designed to make working with series data faster, more consistent, and closer to the way you already interact with ledger views.
These updates improve how you enter and manipulate data across Benefits, Costs, Measures, Goals, and Resources, reducing repetitive manual entry and giving you more powerful bulk-editing tools.
What’s New
Ledger-style input experience
Plan tab inputs now behave more like a ledger, providing a familiar, structured way to work with time-series and row-based data.
This makes it easier to:
- Enter values across multiple periods quickly
- Maintain consistency when working with large datasets
- Understand and validate data in context, without switching views
AG Grid fill handle support
The updated components now include AG Grid-style fill handle functionality, enabling fast, spreadsheet-like data entry across cells.
How to use the fill handle
Each editable cell now includes a small fill handle (a drag point) in its corner.
You can use it to:
1. Copy values across cells
- Click a cell containing a value
- Hover over the bottom-right corner until the fill handle appears
- Click and drag horizontally or vertically
- Release to copy the value into the selected range
2. Extend patterns automatically
- If you select a range with a pattern (e.g. 10, 20, 30 or sequential dates/values)
- Drag the fill handle and the system will intelligently continue the pattern across the selected range
3. Fill large datasets quickly
- Drag across multiple rows or columns to populate entire sections of a plan in seconds
- Ideal for setting baseline values across time periods or replicating assumptions across measures
4. Replace repetitive manual entry
- Instead of typing the same value repeatedly, use the fill handle to propagate it instantly across the required range
This behaviour mirrors modern spreadsheet tools, making it intuitive for users familiar with Excel-style workflows.
Why this matters
These enhancements significantly reduce the effort required to maintain plan data at scale. Instead of entering values cell-by-cell, you can now work more fluidly across rows and columns using familiar interaction patterns.
The result is:
- Faster data entry
- Less repetitive manual work
- Improved accuracy when working with large datasets
- A more intuitive, spreadsheet-like experience inside Amplify
