Custom dashboards are managed under Administration > Custom Dashboards. Each custom dashboard is a report file built for your organization — by Amplify-Now, or by your own team — which is uploaded to Amplify, reviewed, and then made available on the initiatives that should show it. This article covers uploading dashboards, their settings, and making them available. For viewing and exporting them, see Custom Dashboards.
This article covers both the Advanced and Simple Models, and needs administrator access.
Note This feature needs to be enabled for your organization. Speak to your Customer Success Manager to have it enabled in your sandbox for testing.
How custom dashboards are set up
Most custom dashboards are built for your organization by Amplify-Now, and are already listed on the Custom Dashboards page. You can also build and upload your own. Either way, a dashboard goes through three steps before users see it:
- Upload — the dashboard's report file is added to Amplify.
- Review — its settings, such as whether it can be exported, are checked and saved on the Custom Dashboards page.
- Make available — it's chosen in Available Dashboards for the initiative classifications, programs, or project types that should show it.
The Custom Dashboards page
Navigate to Administration > Custom Dashboards. The page has two sections:
- Upload Report — at the top, for adding a dashboard you've built. See Uploading a dashboard.
- Review Reports — below it, listing every dashboard in Amplify with its settings, and the Update button to save them. See Reviewing dashboards.
Uploading a dashboard
To upload a dashboard you've built:
- On the Custom Dashboards page, under Upload Report > File to Upload, click Choose File.
- Choose the dashboard's .pbix file. Upload becomes available.
- Click Upload. The dashboard is added to the Review Reports list, marked as added.
- Check its settings — see Dashboard settings.
- Click Update.
The file's name becomes the dashboard's name in Amplify, so name it as users should see it. Uploading a file with the same name as an existing dashboard replaces that dashboard.
Reviewing dashboards
The Review Reports list shows every dashboard available to Amplify, by its Report name. A tag beside a dashboard's name shows what's changed since the list was last saved:
- Added — a new dashboard. Check its settings before making it available.
- Changed — the dashboard has been updated or renamed. A renamed dashboard shows its previous name.
- Deleted — the dashboard has been removed. Its name is struck through, and its settings can't be changed.
Dashboards with no tag are unchanged. Review the list, and click Update at the bottom of the page to save it, so each dashboard runs correctly.
Dashboard settings
Each dashboard in the list has these settings, in columns beside its name. Click Update to save any changes.
- Requires User Permissions — on, the dashboard only shows data from the initiatives each user has access to. Off, users see rolled-up data from the initiatives beneath, even those they don't have access to. Hover over the ? beside the column's name for a reminder.
- Mobile Layout — shows the dashboard's mobile layout in the Amplify mobile app. Shown where the mobile app is enabled. See Mobile Companion App.
- Exportable — lets users export the dashboard. As the page warns, exporting is experimental, and may not work as expected for every dashboard. Exported files are limited to 30 pages and 250 MB.
- Default Export Format — the format offered first when exporting: PDF or PowerPoint.
Making a dashboard available
Once reviewed, a custom dashboard is listed by its name in Available Dashboards, alongside the standard dashboards. Select it wherever it should be shown, and it appears under Dashboards on those initiatives. It can also be chosen as the Landing Page.
- Advanced Model — on the General Configuration tab of each initiative classification. See Configuring Initiative Classifications (Advanced Model).
- Simple Model — for the program, under its Configuration > General, and for each project type, on its General tab. See Configuring a Program and Configuring Project Classifications (Simple Model).
For choosing dashboards in either model, see Standard Dashboards.
Turning off manual updates
A custom dashboard's data is updated on a schedule. By default, users can also update it whenever they need to, with Request update now on the dashboard.
To stop users from requesting updates, so dashboards only update on their schedule, speak to your Customer Success Manager. This applies to every custom dashboard in your organization.
Editing a dashboard in Amplify
Administrators can change a custom dashboard's layout from within Amplify. To edit a dashboard:
- Open the dashboard on an initiative where it's available.
- On the dashboard's control bar, click Edit mode. A window shows how many initiatives use the dashboard.
- Confirm.
- Make your changes.
- Click View mode to go back to viewing the dashboard.
A custom dashboard is a shared template. Changes made in edit mode apply to every initiative that uses it, not just the one it's opened from.
For viewing, exporting, and updating custom dashboards, see Custom Dashboards.
