Project Schedules outline the overall plan to deliver the output. It communicates the start and end dates, activity sequences, schedule constraints, responsible people, milestones, and inter-task dependencies of a project.
An effective schedule ensures that the project is utilising the available resources optimally to achieve the goals and objectives and is completed within the available time. If not scheduled effectively, a project may not complete on time. Delayed delivery may amount to delayed benefit realisation.
It is important that a full and complete schedule is prepared and communicated to the stakeholders during the project planning stage, outlining the complete effort in terms of cost and resources necessary to deliver the project. With Amplify, you can schedule multiple projects, visualise inter-project dependencies, track and monitor tasks by collaborating with multiple project teams. Schedules can be baselined, linked to benefits so that delays can be identified early on. Dashboards keep stakeholders up-to-date about the schedule progress and possible delays.
How it works
- Once the project tasks are identified, the project owner creates tasks and milestones in the Gantt chart. Schedules maintained in Microsoft Project or Primavera can be imported into Amplify.
- Each task has an owner and a start and end date.
- If a task is dependent on another task or milestone, links are drawn to indicate this association on the Gantt chart
- If a task is dependent on another project, a dependency is created.
- Milestones are linked to benefits, as applicable.
- When the schedule is ready, the project owner baselines it.
- Each task owner marks the progress of their activity on the Gantt chart on a regular basis.
- Stakeholders monitor the Schedule Progress on the Project Dashboard.
- When a delivery milestone has been linked to a benefit, the Benefit Dashboard will indicate a delay in benefits realisation, if any.
