With Amplify chat, you can:

- Direct team members to a specific page that requires their attention
- Search for previous chat comments
This article will assist you to:
- Configure the Chat feature
- Configure Chat notifications
- Use the Chat feature
- View Chat comments in the Timeline
- Receive notifications

- Navigate to the General Configuration tab
- Scroll down to find the option Enable Chat and check the box next to it
- Click Save to enable the Chat feature for your initiatives

Configure Chat Notifications
When a user is tagged in a chat message, they can receive an email notification to alert them. This is controlled via the notifications settings. As an administrator:
- Navigate to the Administration portal
- Click on Notifications in the side menu
- Locate the New Comment option
- Turn the toggle on to allow users to receive the notifications
Use the Chat Feature
Once enabled, the chat feature is available on most pages in the initiative or project, signified by the Chat button at the top right of your page.
Clicking on the chat button will open a sidesheet:
In this sidesheet, you can:
View a list of team members
Clicking on this button will show you a list of team members who can see the chat. All of the people here can also be tagged in the chat.
Read the chat conversation
Conversations are displayed in a familiar messaging format. The messages are ordered from oldest at the top to most recent at the bottom. Opening the chat sidesheet will automatically show the most recent message but this section can be scrolled to read earlier messages.
Each message includes:
- The sender's name and avatar
- A timestamp
- The sender's message
- A link to the specific page the message was sent from
The link makes it easier to direct recipients to the area that requires attention and is appended to the messages automatically.
Messages from other users appear as blue and your own messages appear as green to make it easier to follow your own conversations and responses.
Post a comment
You can join in the conversation by entering your comment into the field at the bottom of the chat sidesheet then clicking Post Comment.
To tag a team member in your message, start a new word with @ and a user list will appear. You can click on a user from this list or keep typing a name to filter this list.
View Chat comments in the Timeline
Search the chat history
If you need to find a specific message in the chat sidesheet, click on the Search chat history link at the bottom right of the chat sidesheet.
This link will navigate to the Timeline. On the Timeline, ensure that Comments are enabled in the filter options to show all of the comments left in the initiative or project. Additionally, you can type your search query in the filter search field to refine your search.
Receive notifications
When you mention (tag) another team member in the chat feature, they will be sent an email notification (if enabled).
The email notification will include:
- The message
- The sender
- What initiative the message was sent
- What page the message was sent from
- A link to that page
Email notifications will only be sent to users who are mentioned in a comment using the @ tagging function. If you mention a user who does not have access to the specific page they will still receive the notification and instead be redirected to the initiative's landing page.
The user will receive a notification in their in-app notification list and contains the same information as the email.
