Importing and Exporting Data

The Ledger has replaced our ageing Excel template based Import/Export feature. The ledger has many advantages over the template approach. For example, the template contains all projects and cost categories regardless of them being in use, the resulting template is very difficult to navigate. The ledger can be filtered, and saved views created for specific use cases.

The template approach also suffers from the wrong version conundrum, where by the wrong version of the template file can be uploaded which can be very difficult to undo, especially if it is not caught immediately.
