What is Resource Management?
Project managers are able to define time-phased resource demand for a given resource type (eg. Engineer), while Resource Managers allocate eligible resources to the project based on capacity, availability and priority.
Amplify allows enterprise organizations to effectively plan, allocate and monitor their workforce by providing clear visibility into remaining demand, utilization and over/underallocation. Teams are able to use this data to balance prorities, resolve conflicts, adapt, and ultimately deliver their most important work with confidence.
How does Resource Management work?
The key areas of Resource Management are:
- General Configuration
- Permissions
- Approval Workflow
- Resource Capacity
- Resource Demand
- Resource Allocation
- Resource Assignment
General Configuration
The first step to using Resource Management is to create resource classifications (resource types) and assign these to your users.
Find out more about the Administration settings required for Resource Management here.
Additionally, you can learn about configuration for Simple Model here.
Permissions
Access to Resource Management can be controlled through two separate role permissions; Resource Demand and Resource Capacity.
Find out more about the difference between these permissions here and how they apply to the project manager and the resource manager.
Approval Workflow
Workflows can be assigned to different resource types allowing the resource manager or department heads to review, allocate, and approve resource demands.
Find out more about how to configure approval workflows here.
Resource Capacity
Current capacity can be defined for individual users to indicate whether they are full-time, part-time etc. Additionally, the organization is able to use planned capacity for a given resource type to determine their hiring needs for future periods.
Learn more about capacity management here.
Resource Demand
Resource demand can be created by project managers allowing them to request the resource types they need to deliver their project.
Learn more about resource demand here.
Resource Allocation
Named resources are allocated by the resource manager to a project's demand for a given resource type based on a user's availbility, capabilities, and the relative priority of the project for the organization.
Learn more about resource allocation here.
Resource Assignment
Allocated resources can be assigned to Schedule tasks by the project manager to execute the work needed to deliver on the project's strategic objective.
Learn more about resource assignment in the Schedule using the resource histogram here.
