The resource histogram gives you the ability to visualize and manage a user's assignment to Schedule tasks to ensure they are correctly utilized.
To access to resource histogram:
- Navigate to your project
- Select Tools -> Schedule from the initiative menu
- Click on the histogram icon
under the Schedule controls
The resource histogram will display the following information:
- A list of all users assigned to Schedule tasks; grouped by their resource type.
- The approval status of the resource type for the project (if there is a corresponding resource demand).
- The allocation status of users to the project. If they have been allocated to a resource demand by the resource manager they will display as 'Allocated'. You can learn more about resource allocation here.
- The histogram chart shows a user's workload for a given period and highlights over/under utilization.
- Assignment (the numerator), is the effort assigned to Schedule tasks for a given period. Task effort will always be a percentage of an individual user's overall capacity.
- Capacity (the denominator), will be the individual user's overall capacity by default. Although this can be changed to reference the user's allocation.
Resource Histogram Capacity Settings
Resource Histogram Capacity Calculation Method
The capacity shown on the resource histogram can be configured to show either:
- User Capacity (default): A user's overall capacity. This is defined when they are assigned a resource type. See Resource Management Configuration article.
- User Allocation: A user's allocation against a resource demand for a given period.
Standard Working Week
The standard working week for users in your organization can be defined in hours. This is used by Amplify to:
- Calculate a user's Capacity (FTE) in hours.
- Show an individual user's task assignment compared to their capacity (or allocation if the 'User Allocation' setting mentioned above is selected) in the Resource Histogram.
For example:
- The defined standard working week is 40 hours.
- Any users assigned a Capacity of 1 FTE will be assumed to work full-time at 40 hours per week.
- Assigning a full-time user to a weekly task at 100% effort will assign them 40 hours for the duration of the task.
